Summary: Post-herpatic Neuralgia (PHN)

This study is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the new PRODRUG of Gabapentin (Neurontin), compared to placebo with 3 of 4 subjects receiving treatment. This is a 5 month study with 10 clinic visits qualified patients will be compensated for their time and travel upon completion of study.

Patient Inclusion Criteria:

  • Male or female 18 or older
  • Pain with PHN for at least 3 months from the healing of the herpes zoster skin rash
  • Pain 4 or greater most days on a scale of 1 to 10

Patient Exclusion Criteria:

  • Chronic Hepatitis B or C
  • Active epilepsy or any active seizure disorder requiring antiepileptic drugs
  • Active significant psychiatric disorders in the last year requiring treatment with medications (except SSRIs)
