Summary: Clinical trial to test a study vaccine to prevent pneumococcal disease

To evaluate the immune response (how your body fights the germs) that the study vaccine may produce compared to the immune response that the currently approved 23vPS may produce.

Study drug and study procedures will be made available to you at no cost.

To qualify, you must:

• Be at least 70 years of age or older.
• Documented vaccination with 1 dose of 23vPS (Pneumovax) at least 5 years before study enrollment.

You will not qualify if you:

• Have a history of severe adverse reaction associated with a vaccine.
• Have had any vaccine (except flu vaccine) within 30 days before the study vaccine is to be given.
• Live in a nursing home, long-term care facility, or other institution, or require semi-skilled nursing care.
• Intend to receive any other experimental drug or vaccine at any time from one month before the study until the end of the study.
