Trial Information

Summary: The Effect of Aromatase Inhibition on the Cognitive Function of Older Patients with Breast Cancer

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you are 65 years of age or older and either you have breast cancer and will be receiving treatment with a medication called an aromatase inhibitor (either anastrozole or letrozole) or you are healthy. The purpose of the study is to explore the impact of aromatase inhibitors on cognitive function (the ability to know, think, learn, and judge).  Researchers will also explore the relationship between changes over time in cognitive function and changes in how the brain metabolizes (breaks down and uses) glucose as seen on an FDG-PET scan.  In addition, researchers will explore the relationship between changes in cognitive function and changes in proteins found in blood, urine,  and/or skin tissue to evaluate the risk of aromatase inhibitor therapy causing cognitive changes.  Your participation in this study is expected to last about 6 months.
