Summary: Pain Associated with Post-Herpetic Neuralgia (PHN) - Adults

People with pain associated to PHN are asked to participate in a research study being conducted by Heritage Medical Associates.

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • Are 18-80 years of age
  • Have been diagnosed with PHN as defined as pain present for more than 6 months after the healing of herpes zoster skin rash

You may not participate in this study if you:

  • Have anxiety or depression
  • Have Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH)
  • Have symptoms of urinary retention
  • Have had a previous neurolytic or neurosurgical therapy for PHN
  • Have progressive central nervous system (CNS) disease (e.g. CNS lupus, tumors, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s) , lesion, or encephalopathy
  • Have a history of cancer within the past two years
  • Have a history of alcohol or drug abuse within the past year or regular alcohol consumption exceeding an average of 2 units of alcohol per day
  • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to become pregnant during the study
  • Have participated in another research study within the last 30 days
