Summary: Infant Siblings of Children with Autism and "Typically Developing" Children
This study aims to improve early identification of Autism by
examining social and language development.
What is involved?
Six visits to UCLA at ages:
- 6 months
- 9 months
- 12 months (1 yr)
- 18 months (1 1/2 yrs)
- 24 months (2 years)
- 36 months (3 years)
One parent interview in the home.
One interview completed by a teacher or daycare provider.
The child's development progress will be assessed in terms
of play, social interaction, language skills, motor skills, and
physical development. Participation in this research study is free
of cost.
During the 6-month, 9-month, 12-month or 18-month visit
(whichever you prefer) we will ask to take a small blood sample
from your child, which may cause monor swelling or brusing.
Participation is entirely VOLUNTARY.
Developmental assessments can also be lengthy and tiring but we
will provide you and your child plenty of time for breaks and
snacks.
This study is designed for:
- Six-month old infants who are siblings of a child either
disgnosed with autism or typically developing.
