Trial Information
Summary: Are you being treated for osteoarthritis?
If you have osteoarthritis (OA) and are currently being treated
by your doctor, you may want to consider participating in
GI-REASONS (Gastro Intestinal
Randomized Events
And Safety
Open-label NSAIDs
Study). Ask your doctor about this interesting
research program.
What is GI-REASONS?
GI-REASONS is a large research study being conducted at hundreds of
doctors' offices around the country. The purpose of this study
is to evaluate the gastrointestinal safety of a certain type of
FDA-approved osteoarthritis medicine. There are several medicines
included as part of this research program, all of which are
FDA-approved and available for many years for osteoarthritis
treatment. Your doctor will explain the basic elements of the study
to you once you have been determined to be eligible for the
study.
How might I benefit from participating in
GI-REASONS?
Ask your doctor about GI-REASONS and find out if you are eligible
to participate. The study-related medicine and laboratory tests
required by the study will be provided to you at no charge.
How do I enroll in this study
If you are 55 and older, already been diagnosed with OA, require
daily treatment for your osteoarthritis and are interested in
joining GI-REASONS, talk to your doctor. They will explain more
fully the requirements for GI-REASONS.
If you decide to participate and your doctor says you meet the
entry criteria, the first step is to have a screening visit. At
this visit, your doctor will ask you to review and sign an Informed
Consent Form. This will be explained in detail and you will have a
chance to ask questions. Even if you sign this Form, you may change
your mind at any time during the study and drop out.
You will also have some blood tests done. If you pass the
screening tests, the overall study will be explained in detail by
your doctor and you will be enrolled.
What can I expect?
Once enrolled in this study, you will be monitored periodically for
about 6 to 7 months by the doctor treating you for your
osteoarthritis. There will be five visits to your doctor's
office, including the screening visit, during the study.
Please ask your doctor about GI-REASONS if you are interested in
participating in this study
