Trial Information
Summary: PHII-86 NCI #7925: A Phase 2 Study of AZD6244 in Relapsed or Refractory AML
You have been asked to participate in this research study because (A) you have acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that has relapsed (returned) after an initial period of remission (no evidence of cancer by standard clinical tests) or that is refractory (has not responded to) treatment or (B) you have AML, are older and are physically unable to tolerate the effects of standard chemotherapy or have refused standard chemotherapy or (C) you have AML that developed following treatment for another cancer or following a previous bone marrow disorder (such as myelodysplatic syndrome or myeloproliferative disease). The purposes of this study are: to evaluate how AML responds to treatment with the investigational drug AZD6244; to see what side effects AZD6244 causes; and to do laboratory studies to see the effect of AZD6244 on substances in the blood and bone marrow associated with AML. Your treatment on this study is expected to last for at least 1 cycle (4 weeks) with an option for receiving additional cycles if there is evidence that your cancer is stable (not getting worse) or improving. You will continue to receive the study drug for as long as it is helpful to you and does not cause any serious side effects. After your treatment on this study is over, your medical condition will continue to be followed for about one year.
