Summary: Effects of eszopiclone on Sleep and learning in chronic, medicated schizophrenia patients

Eligibility:
-We are looking for volunteers diagnosed with schizophrenia between the ages of 18 and 45 to participate in a study on the learning of motor skills.
-Individuals without a diagnosed sleep disorder, substance abuse within the past six months, a history of seizures, or a history of head injury with a prolonged loss of consciousness may be eligible to participate.

• Subject participation:
-Participation involves spending two nights at the Massachusetts General Hospital on two separate occasions.
-During your first two night stay you will you will perform a computerized finger tapping task, complete a few paper-and-pencil tests, and have your sleep monitored overnight.
-Your second two night stay will be similar to the first except that you will take either a sleep medication or a placebo (an inactive tablet that looks exactly like the study medication) before going to sleep.
-Your confidentiality will be assured.

• Payment:
You will be paid between $500 and $540 for participation. Meals are also provided.
