Trial Information
Summary: Volunteers Ages 60-64 Needed for Vaccination Research Study
The purpose of this research study is to determine if a new
vaccine will protect against a bacteria called pneumococcus, which
can cause severe pneumonia and blood infection in older people. The
best way of protecting against pneumococcal disease is by
vaccination. For those 65 years of age or older, a pneumococcal
vaccine has been available but it does not protect very well
against pneumonia and experts believe a bett er vaccine is needed.
We are looking for people willing to be volunteers to test a new
vaccine against pneumococcal infection. A version of this vaccine,
designed for children, has already been approved by the federal
government and is routinely given to children.
You may be eligible for this study if you are a healthy adult
ages 60-64.
By serving as a volunteer, you may contribute information that
may benefi t the development of a new vaccine. For more
information, please e-mail baplum0@uky.edu or call (859) 257-5467
or (859) 257-7494.
