Summary: Ziprasidone for the Treatment of Generalized Anxiety Comorbidity in Patients with Bipolar Disorder

Are you anxious? Do you also suffer from Bipolar Disorder?

Are you anxious? Do you worry a lot? Are you a “worrywart”? Are you irritable or impatient? Do you feel nervous most of the time?

Do you have physical symptoms like muscle tension, difficulty sleeping, poor concentration?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be eligible for an investigational medication research study at no cost.

The Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Related Disorders and the Bipolar Clinic and Research Program is currently seeking volunteers ages 18 and older to participate in a research study evaluating a medication in the treatment of patients with Generalized Anxiety and Bipolar Disorder. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effectiveness of ziprasidone (Geodon) compared to placebo (contains no active medication) in the treatment of patients with Generalized Anxiety and Bipolar Disorder. Ziprasidone is an antipsychotic medication that is currently approved for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar manic and mixed states, but has not yet been studied for anxiety in patients with Bipolar Disorder. This study involves an extensive screening visit, followed by 6 visits over an 8 week period. Eligible patients will receive study visits, laboratory tests, and physical examinations at no cost.
