Summary: Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS)

People with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis are asked to participate in a research study being conducted by NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases.

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • Are between the ages of 18 and 55 inclusive
  • Have had 1 documented relapse in the past year or 2 documented relapses in the past 2 years
You may not participate in this study if you:
  • Have a different form of multiple sclerosis (other than RRMS)
  • Have Used immunosuppressive (including Mitoxantrone (NovantroneŽ) or cytotoxic agents within 6 months prior to the screening visit.
  • Previously used either of the following: natalizumab, (TysabriŽ), cladribine, laquinimod.
  • Have a history of tuberculosis
  • Have an infection 2 weeks prior to study start
  • Have HIV or Hepatitis A,B, or C
  • Have received a bone marrow transplant
  • Have had major trauma surgery 2 weeks prior to study start
  • Have used amiodarone within 2 years prior to screening visit.
  • Have had a heart attack within the past 6 months
  • Have a gastrointestinal disorder, kidney, liver or other metabolic diseases
  • Have a history of drug or alcohol abuse or any major psychiatric disorder
  • Are unable to undergo an MRI
  • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to become pregnant during the study
  • Have participated in another research study within the last 6 months
