Summary: Home-Based Assessment Study: monitoring cognitive function in individuals without having to visit the doctor's office, a no treatment study
Many individuals at risk for cognitive decline are not able to
make visits to a medical clinic due to many circumstances such as a
lack of transportation, impaired mobility, or costs. This study
aims to determine if there are alternative methods to determine
cognitive function using in house assessments. Methods tested will
include 1) mail in form with live phone, 2) automated telephone
using touch-tone responding or 3) computer-based evaluation.
Patient Inclusion Criteria:
- Must be 75 years old or older
- Willing and able to take a study medication (vitamin)
- Able to answer and dial a telephone, access to mail, and
minimal computer skills (will teach if willing to learn)
Patient Exclusion Criteria:
- Dementia
- Use of cognitive-enhancing drugs
- Continued use of own multi-vitamins
- Life expectancy of less than five years
