Summary: Phase 4 Medication Study for Late-Life Depression

This is a 25-week study of the safety and effectiveness of duloxetine (Cymbalta) vs placebo (an inactive substance) in individuals who are age 65 or older.

Patient Inclusion Criteria:

  • Male or female
  • Age 65 or older
  • Must meet criteria for depression
  • Must be in generally good medical health

Patient Exclusion Criteria:

  • Prior history of bipolar disorder, panic disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia or obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Severe dementia, mental retardation, or serious unstable medical condition
  • History of excessive substance use in the past 6 months
  • Prior history of lack of response to duloxetine for depression
  • Uncontrolled narrow angle glaucoma
  • Have discontinued hormone replacement therapy in the previous 3 months
  • ECT or TMS within the past year
