Trial Information
Summary: A Phase II Trial of Perifosine Following Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor Failure in Patients with Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma
You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have kidney cancer that is no longer controlled with either sorafenib or sunitinib. This study will use an experimental drug called perifosine, which has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The purpose of this study is to see if perifosine can prevent tumors from growing in subjects with kidney cancer whose disease has grown while on sorafenib or sunitinib. Researchers will also be looking to see if the tumors shrink during treatment and at the side effects of the treatment. In addition, researchers will look at tumor samples and blood samples to see if there are tumor characteristics that might help identify subjects who might respond to perifosine and to learn more about the biological effect of the drug. Your treatment on this study is expected to last for as long as your tumor is not growing and you are not having any unmanageable side effects. After your treatment is finished, your condition will be followed for two years from the time you started study drug.
