Trial Information
Summary: Clinical trial to test a study drug in HIV Associated Diarrhea
The purpose of this study is to test the efficacy (if the drug
works) and safety of an anti-diarrhea medication in treating
subjects with HIV-associated diarrhea.
Study drug and study procedures will be made available to you at
no cost.
To qualify, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a confirmed diagnosis HIV-I or AIDS
- Have diarrhea for at least one month
You will not qualify if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Have a history of gastric, small intestinal or colonic surgery.
You also cannot have symptoms of bowel obstruction.
- Have an immediate need for gastrointestinal (GI) surgery or
intervention for other gastrointestinal issues.
- Have used certain forms of pain medication within 2 weeks of
screening.
- Have used an antibiotic within 2 weeks prior to screening
(however, if you have been on a stable dose of antibiotic therapy
for treatment of an HIV-associated condition for at least 4 weeks
prior to screening, this is allowed).
- Have positive stool test results for blood, inflammation, or
certain types of bacteria or parasites in the past 4 months.
- Have participated in another research study within the past 30
days
