Summary: Social Anxiety Disorder Treatment and fMRI
The purpose of this phase IV study is to examine the effect of
paroxetine (Paxil) treatment on brain activation patterns among
persons with social anxiety.
Psychiatric and medical evaluation to determine eligibility
12 weeks of treatment with paroxetine (Paxil), a medication
approved for the treatment of social anxiety disorder
Two visits for functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI)
scans while viewing pictures; one scan before and one after 8-12
weeks of treatment. Participants will be compensated $100 after
each scan.

Patient Inclusion Criteria
- Age Range: 18-65
- Social Anxiety Disorder as main problem
- Not currently taking psychiatric medication
- In good physical health
