Summary: Brain Imaging of Depression Using PET and Amphetamine

The purpose is to study brain chemisty of the brain chemical dopamine in depression in order to improve diagnosis and treatment of patients in the future.

All participants will have a psychiatric and medical evaluation to determine eligibility. Eligible participants will have an MRI scan. This will be followed by two PET scans, one before and one after a single dose of the medical amphetamine. These scans are for research purposes and are of no direct benefit to participants. Participants are compensated $250 and offered three months of free treatment as needed.

Patient Inclusion Criteria

  • Age Range: 18-55
  • Depression as main problem
  • No current psychiatric medication
  • Good physical health
