Summary: Heart Disease Research for Diabetics

Dear Potential Volunteer,

I am writing to let you know that Radiant Research is conducting a research study of an investigational medication to determine if it can reduce the risk of heart disease in people with diabetes. We are looking for diabetics with a history of heart disease or who are diabetic and over the age of 60 to participate in this research.

Studies show that diabetics have twice the risk for heart disease when compared to people without diabetes. In addition, studies have shown that diabetics with a certain gene are at an even greater risk for heart disease. We are currently screening diabetics to determine if they have the gene that may put them at increased risk.

If you do have this gene you may qualify to participate in a research study of an investigational medication to determine if it can reduce the risk of heart disease. For those with a history of heart disease the study will examine the study medication and its ability to reduce the risk of additional heart problems.

To qualify for the screening you need to be diabetic and also meet one of the following criteria

• Had a heart attack that was at least 6 months ago OR
• Have failed a stress test with your physician OR
• Have a condition know as Peripheral Artery Disease or Claudication OR
• Be 60 years of age or older

Your personal insurance is not involved in any way as there is no cost to you for the screening or for participation in the study.

Participation in a research study is always voluntary; some of the benefits include study-related lab tests, study-related doctor care, and study medications, all at no charge.
