Trial Information

Summary: CTSU/ECOG: Program for the Assessment of Clinical Cancer Tests (PACCT-1): Trial Assigning Individualized Options for Treatment: The TAILORx Trial

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have breast cancer that is estrogen receptor and/or progesterone receptor positive that has not spread to the axillary lymph nodes.  After surgery, hormonal therapy is standard.  About 80 to 85 patients out of 100 are alive at ten years with hormonal therapy alone.  Chemotherapy is often added to hormonal therapy to reduce the risk of occurrence.  Because doctors are not able to precisely identify who will benefit from adding chemotherapy, some patients may be receiving chemotherapy unnecessarily.  The main purpose of this study is to determine whether some subjects, based on the characteristics of their breast cancer, may have similar results from hormonal therapy as from hormonal therapy plus chemotherapy.  Another purpose is to create a specimen bank to be used for additional research into breast cancer.  Your participation in this study is expected to last a maximum of 20 years from the time you are enrolled.
