Summary: Stent for thoracic aneurysm

UVa Health System, Departments of Radiology and Surgery seek adults with thoracic aortic aneurysms for a research study (TAG 06-02).
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the investigational GORE TAG Thoracic Endoprosthesis 45mm (stent) when used as the primary treatment for descending thoracic aneurysms. An aneurysm is a bulge in the main blood vessel leaving the heart, caused by weakening in the blood vessel wall. If this is left untreated, it can grow larger and may break open which might be life-threatening. A stent is a mesh-like hollow tube which is sometimes used to help hold open blood vessels.

This study is for adult patients who would not be able to receive a commercially available (smaller size) thoracic stent due to the size of their aorta.

The study will collect information about how this larger sized investigational stent works when used to treat aneurysms in the chest. The study involves follow up clinic visits with CT scans and chest x-rays at 1 month, 6 months, and then once a year for a total of 5 years after placement of the investigational stent.

Patients will not receive payment as a result of participation.
