Trial Information

Summary: PHII-66 NCI#7028: A Phase II Study of BAY 43-9006 for Patients with Imatinib-and Sunitinib Resistant Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor

You are being asked to take part in this study because you have malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumor, commonly known as GIST, which has progressed after standard treatment with Gleevec (also known as imatinib) and sunitinib (also known as SUTENT). The purpose of this study is to evaluate response (shrinking or staying the same) of tumor to BAY 43-9006.  Other objectives are to evaluate side effects experienced by and long-term survival of subjects receiving BAY 43-9006. Tumor samples will also be studied to see whether certain characteristics of the cancer cells are related to response to treatment.  Your treatment will last for as long as your tumor is not growing and you are not having any unmanageable side effects. After your treatment is complete, your condition will be followed indefinitely.
