Trial Information

Summary: Phase I-II Study of Escalating Doses of Large Field Image Guided Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) using Helical Tomotherapy in Combination with Etoposide (VP-16) and Cytoxan as a Preparative Regimen for Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell (HSC) Transplantation for Patients with Poor Risk Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)

You have/your child has been asked to participate in this research study because you have/your child has acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and are being considered for an allogeneic (from a donor) transplant of peripheral blood stem cells (immature cells that can become blood cells) from a matched sibling (brother or sister) donor.  The purpose of this study is to determine the highest dose of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) that can be combined with two chemotherapy drugs (cyclophosphamide and VP16) given intravenously (IV, through a vein) as a preparative regimen before transplantation.  Another purpose is to determine the highest dose of total marrow irradiation (TMI) that can be given with IMRT, Cyclophosphamide and VP16 without causing unmanageable side effects. The side effects of this regimen will also be evaluated.  Your/your child’s participation in this study is expected to last about two months for treatment.  After treatment on this study is over, your/your child’s medical condition will be followed indefinitely.
