Trial Information
Summary: Thoracic stent trial for chest aneurysms
UVa Health System, Departments and Radiology and Surgery seeks adults with thoracic aortic aneurysms for research study.
The purpose of the study is to evaluate the investigational Medtronic Valiant Thoracic Endoprosthesis (stent) when used as the primary treatment of descending thoracic aneurysms. An aneurysm is a bulge in the main blood vessel leaving the heart, caused by weakening in the blood vessel wall. If this is left untreated, it can grow larger and may break open which might be life-threatening. A stent is a mesh-like hollow tube which is sometimes used to help hold open blood vessels. This study is for adult patients who may need to have a stent placed to treat an aneurysm in their chest. The study will collect information from a group of patients to help give some more information about how this investigational stent works when used to treat aneurysms in the chest. The study involves follow up visits (with CT scans, chest x-rays, and clinic visits) at 1 month, 6 months, and then once a year for a total of 5 years after placement of the investigational stent.
