Trial Information
Summary: SWOG S0421: Phase III Study of Docetaxel and Atrasentan versus Docetaxel and Placebo for Patients with Advanced Hormone Refractory Prostate Cancer
You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have prostate cancer that is no longer responding to treatment with hormones. The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of the combination of docetaxel and prednisone plus atrasentan against the combination of docetaxel and prednisone plus placebo on prostate cancer in terms of survival and survival without progression of disease. Researchers will also compare both therapies in the following areas: pain caused by the cancer; quality of life in terms of relief from pain and improvement in ability to do things; and response to treatment. Further, researchers will also be looking at genetic makeup of tumor and blood specimens to see if the genes involved can predict the response, survival and/or side effects of these treatments. Your treatment on this study is expected to last approximately one year. After your treatment on this study is over, your medical condition will be followed indefinitely.
