Trial Information

Summary: RTOG 0525: Phase III Trial Comparing Conventional Adjuvant Temozolomide with Dose-Intensive Temozolomide in Patients with Newly Diagnosed Glioblastoma

You have been asked to participate in this research study because you have a brain tumor that has been diagnosed as glioblastoma multiforme.  The purpose of this study is to evaluate treatment after chemoradiation of the chemotherapy drug temozolomide given 5 out of 28 days (conventional-dose schedule) as compared to 21 out of 28 days (dose-dense schedule) in terms of improving survival and lowering the risk of tumor progression (continued growth).  This study will also compare the side effects of the two treatments.  In addition, laboratory studies will be done to determine whether response to temozolomide and overall outcome depends on whether the tumor expresses an enzyme called MGMT.  Your treatment on this study is expected to last for 48 weeks.  After you complete study treatment, your medical condition will be followed at regular check-ups every 3 months for the first year, every 4 months for the second year and every 6 months thereafter.
