Drug Name: Rid Mousse

The following information is obtained from various newswires, published medical journal articles, and medical conference presentations.

Company: Soltec Research
Approval Status: Approved March 2000
Treatment for: For the treatment of head, pubic (crab), and body lice

General Information

Rid is a mousse designed to kill head, pubic (crab), and body lice. For effective use, Rid must be thoroughly applied to dry hair, covering the entire infected area. The product should be left in the hair for ten minutes in order to treat the lice and then should be washed thoroughly with water and shampoo. Finally, the hair should be combed with a fine-toothed comb (provided with the product) in order to remove nits (eggs) from the hair. The hair should be treated a second time after 7 to 10 days in order to kill any lice hatched after the first treatment.

Along with Rid Mousse treatment, the infected person's clothing, bedding, hair products, and other personal items should be washed well in hot water. Those items that cannot be washed should be dry cleaned, sealed in a plastic bag, and/or sprayed with a product designed to kill lice on such items.

Lice can be spread by sharing personal items and through personal contact. Since pubic lice can be spread through sexual contact, sexual partners of lice-infected people should simultaneously be treated with Rid.
