Center Overview

Rex Healthcare, a member of UNC Health Care, is a private, not-for-profit health care system with 4,600 co-workers. Rex Healthcare has 665 beds (433 general acute beds and 226 skilled nursing) and treats nearly 34,000 inpatients each year. More than 1,100 physicians are on the Rex medical staff.

Rex provides a variety of healthcare services throughout Wake County, with facilities in Apex, Cary, Garner, Knightdale, Wakefield, downtown Raleigh and coming soon to Holly Springs.

The Heart and Vascular Research Department is located on our main hospital campus in west Raleigh. While clinical trials have been conducted at Rex for many years, a dedicated department for heart and vascular research was established in 2006. It is our mission to provide the best in health services by bringing together compassionate care and leading edge technology. Our research is driven by values which center around patient safety, sound business practices, outstanding care and superior customer service.

Driving Directions
Rex Hospital is located at the corner of Blue Ridge Road and Lake Boone Trail.

From I-440 Beltline:

  • Take the Lake Boone Trail exit.
  • Turn right at the end of the ramp.
  • Go approximately 1 mile and you will see the main entrance of the hospital on the right.
    • From Durham, Chapel Hill and points west:

      • Take I-40 east to Raleigh.
      • Take Wade Avenue exit.
      • Go approximately two miles and take Blue Ridge Road exit.
      • At top of ramp, take left.
      • Go approximately 1.5 miles and take right onto Lake Boone Trail.
      • At first stoplight, take left into Rex Hospital campus.

      From Clayton, Benson and points east:

      • Take I-40 west to Raleigh.
      • Take I-440 inner beltline (US 64).
      • Take the Lake Boone Trail exit.
      • Turn right at the end of the ramp.
      • Go approximately mile and you will see the main entrance of the hospital on the right.

Our investigators are Rex Healthcare affiliated physicians who present an expansive background of experience from varying therapeutic areas. Studies conducted within our Center have included both medication and device.

Patient Demographics

Located in North Carolina's capital city of Raleigh, Rex Healthcare provides services to a large and diverse patient population. The greater Triangle area's population exceeds one million. Nine colleges and universities are nearby and the area is becoming well known for its ideal retirement attributes. Rex Healthcare's presence in surrounding communities such as Cary, Apex, Garner and Wakefield provides an excellent network for reaching patients in rural areas.

Other Information

Rex Healthcare strives to meet the absolute highest in research standards. A dedicated Institutional Review Board (IRB) was established by the Medical Staff Executive Committee to oversee the participation of human subjects involved in research studies. The IRB is charged to protect the rights and welfare of these subjects.
