Summit Research Network (Seattle, Washington) is an independent medical research organization with one out-patient facility in the greater Portland area. Since 1991, we have worked in cooperation with pharmaceutical companies to develop medical treatments for a variety of conditions.
Beginning in the year 1999, Seattle Clinical Research Center joined with oursister sitein Portland, Oregon, to form Summit Research Network. By expanding, Summit can marshal additional resources to provide the most advanced research techniques to help individuals with psychiatric and other health conditions. Our staff includes physicians (psychiatry and internal medicine), psychologists, nurses, clinicians, certified clinical research coordinators, medical assistants and support personnel.
We are dedicated to improving medical treatment by conducting excellent scientific research. Our goal is to expand scientific knowledge while maintaining the highest quality patient care. Our patients receive research care, mental health evaluations, medical evaluations, and supervision by our professional and experienced staff. A post study treatment program is also available to patients once their study participation has been completed. All of these services are provided at no cost to the patient.
Located in the Cabrini Medical Tower, we have excellent access to freeways and public transportation. Onsite validated parking is available.

Summit Research specializes in clinical studies for Anxiety, Depression (adult, geriatric, pediatric and treatment resistant), Alcohol Related Problems, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD: adult and pediatric), Binge Eating Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Chronic Low Back Pain, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, High Cholesterol, Hypertension
Equipment & Diagnostic Services:
- Private offices, multiple exam rooms
- Phlebotomy draw/processing capabilities including centrifuges, refrigerators and -20° freezer.
- Medical equipment includes portable 12-lead ECG machines, scales, mercury sphygmomanometers.
- Secured drug storage room

Jerry C. Steiert, MD, Principal Investigator
Dr. Steiert has worked in clinical research since 2001 and has served as Principal Investigator at Summit Research Network since 2004. He has been Principal Investigator on a wide variety of studies in various indications, including depression, bipolar disorder, smoking cessation, alcohol dependence, ADHD and insomnia. Dr. Steiert is board certified in Psychiatry with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Claire Waltman, MD, Principal Investigator
Dr. Waltman has worked in clinical research since 1995. Her experience includes research fellowships at the National Institute on Aging and Johns Hopkins. She has served as Principal Investigator on studies since 1999 and joined Summit Research Network in 2006. She is board certified in Endocrinology and Metabolism as well as Internal Medicine.
Benjamin Dobbeck, PSYD, Principal Investigator/Rater/Diagnostician
Dr. Dobbeck, clinical psychologist, has worked in clinical research since 1999, including 5 years with Summit Research Network (Oregon) Inc. He joined the Summit Seattle team in 2008. While working mostly with adults, he also has considerable experience working with pediatric and adolescent populations. Dr. Dobbeck is licensed in both Oregon and Washington.
