AZ Research Center’s proven model, and combined years of experience, affords us the ability to provide our patients with new treatment options and our sponsors with valuable expertise in numerous medical conditions. AZRC represents an ongoing and growing network of over 150 Valley Physicians, including 50 surgeons, and 10 Hospitals that support our research efforts, which to date numbers 500 clinical trials.
Our staff includes 2 fulltime Principal Investigators, 10 fulltime ACRP certified research coordinators, Regulatory, Quality Assurance, Business Development, Recruitment specialist, and an associated private physician practice. AZRC was founded in 1997 by Joseph S. Gimbel, MD to conduct reliable and meaningful clinical research for Valley residents which currently has an active database of our 20,000 subjects and growing. Dr. Gimbel has served as a participating member on several pharmaceutical advisory boards, and has published over 50 study related articles and industry poster presentations. In May of 2011, Dr. Gimbel was joined by Dr. Louise A. Taber, MD who brings 18 years of research expertise. Our office is conveniently located in the heart of Phoenix with easy access to major freeways, public transportation and airports.

Joseph S. Gimbel, M.D.
Medical Director, Principal Investigator
Dr. Gimbel attended Duke University and the University of Maryland, receiving his M.D. Degree from the University of Maryland Medical Center. During his residency at the University of Illinois and Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, Joseph S. Gimbel, M.D. specialized in orthopaedic surgery. He continued his extensive training with an international externship at the Rheumatism Foundation Hospital in Finland: one of the world’s largest hospitals that focuses almost exclusively on the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. His comprehensive experience and expertise supports a special focus on the treatment of industrial and sports injuries - with a background in the care of back pain and the management of degenerative osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoporosis.
As the Medical Director of the Arizona Research Center, Dr. Gimbel, M.D. is involved with every aspect of study implementation Dr. Gimbel has served as the Principal Investigator on a large number of studies. To date AZRC has conducted over 450 trials , and has authored over 50 industry articles and posters.
Dr. Joe, as he is known by his staff, encourages an enjoyable and stimulating work environment. He expects every employee to maximize their efforts to achieve the goal of collecting excellent data while maintaining the highest level of patient care.
Louise A. Taber, M.D.
Principal Investigator
Dr. Louise Taber is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. She matriculated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Her internship was at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina and her residency at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Nutrition (Highest Distinction) and a Master’s degree in Human Development, both from the University of Maine, Orono, ME. She is a Certified Physician Investigator and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. She maintains her certification as a Registered Dietitian. She joined Pivotal Research Centers (subsequently known as Premier Research Group) as a Principal Investigator in September, 2007 and was Medical Director from January 1, 2008 to May 15, 2011. She has interest in obesity, metabolism, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and women’s health. She speaks French and Spanish. She joined Arizona Research Center as Medical Director on May 16, 2011.
Regulatory Department
Arizona Research Center’s regulatory specialists process the start-up paperwork in under a week and work diligently to maintain all regulatory documents throughout the study.
Business Development
Principal Investigators and Study Coordinators are aided in study enrollment and recruitment through the work of the business development staff. These employees work diligently to pursue all avenues of patient recruitment and help the Research Center to frequently exceed enrollment standards set by study sponsors.
Clinical Research Coordinators
Arizona Research Center CRC’s work under the direction the PI in the overall, day-to-day management of clinical trials. Team leaders with extensive research experience oversee each coordinator, who can efficiently manage multiple trials. All CRC’s are certified and CCRC certified.
