Center Overview

Guilford Neurologic Associates, Inc. was incorporated on May 3, 1971 as a medical facility for the care of persons with neurologic illnesses. We are committed to provide our best efforts in the science and art of the practice of neurology to those who seek our services, whether they are patients, students, colleagues or organizations. As a private practice, we are closely affiliated with local hospitals within our service area. Providing expertise in the area of neurology, our physicians and practitioners focus on treating all patients with the most state-of-the-art medical therapies.

Guilford Neurologic Associates developed a Research Department in 2007 and is now dedicated to bring the latest opportunities in medical advances to our community. We take pride in having the ability to offer more than just the standard of care to our patients. Working closely with pharmaceutical and medical device companies to help identify new therapies, we strive to provide the best in quality data capture. So, it is our mission to provide accurate, dependable, and overall consistence in every aspect of the clinical trial process. We strive to help each patient understand his/her illness, recognize his/her strength, and to accept and minimize his/her handicap.

Clinical Research Experience

Guilford Neurologic Research has conducted Phase II-IV clinical trials in neurology since 2007. We have also contracted out our services to investigators in other therapeutic areas such as gastrointestinal, radiology, rehabilitation and cardiology. Facility Description

Guilford Neurologic Associates is located in northeast Greensboro, very close to major highways and interstates. Accessible to pedestrians with city transportation stops in less than half a mile. Our brand new facility just opened in October of 2010. Where we are proud to offer state-of-the-art testing and reporting equipment, including EMG, NCV, EEG, Ambulatory EEG's, Evoked Potentials, Neuro-Imaging and Sleep Lab.

Our in-office Neurovascular Lab is equipped to perform Transcranial Doppler's (TCD), including:

  • Bubble Studies and Emboli Monitoring
  • Cerebrovascular Vasoreactivity

Our Clinical Research Department offers outpatient and inpatient clinical trials

Participates as Primary Investigator in MS trials and Sub-Investigator in Migraine, Stroke, and Epilepsy trials

C. Keith Willis, MD
General Neurology & Neuromuscular Disorders. Board certified in neurology and electrodiagnostic medicine.
Participates as a Sub-Investigator in MS, Migraine, Stroke, and Epilepsy.

Carmen Dohmeier, MD
General Neurology and Sleep Medicine. Board certified in neurology and sleep medicine.
Participates as Primary Investigator in MS trials and Sub-Investigator in Migraine, Stroke, and Epilepsy trials.

Pramod Sethi, MD FAHA
Medical Research Director, General Neurology & Vascular Neurology and Neuroimaging. Board certified in neurology, vascular neurology, neurosonology and neuroimaging, is also a fellow of the American Heart Association and is a Certified Physician Investigator (CPI) by the ACRP. Participates as Primary Investigator in Stroke trials and Sub-Investigator in Migraine, MS, and Epilepsy.

James Love, MD
General Neurology & Movement Disorders. Board certified in neurology. Specializes in movement disorders, such as Parkinson's Disease. Participates as Sub-Investigator in Stroke, Migraine, Stroke, and Epilepsy trials.

Vikram Penumalli, MD
General Neurology, Neurophysiology & Neuroimaging.
Participates as Sub-Investigator in Stroke, Migraine, Epilepsy, and MS trials.

Staff Expertise

Our research staff is a mix of several different specialty areas. There are two highly trained registered nurses with critical care backgrounds that are able to maneuver as coordinators within hospital systems as well as in an office clinic. We also have two non-nurse research coordinators that have a strong background in clinical research and have helped to lead the office in subject recruitment. All Clinical Coordinators and our Regulatory Affairs Specialist are well trained in GCP guidelines, Modified Rankin, NIHSS, and multiple EDC systems. Our Regulatory Affairs Specialist governs our IRB communications and document submissions.

Patient Demographics

Guilford Neurologic Associates services the Piedmont Triad area which includes Guilford, Alamance, Rockingham, Caswell, Randolph, and Forsyth counties. There are approximately 2 million people in our service area and our patient data base consists of over 85,000. The majority of our patients come from referrals and physician consultations. We use our electronic database to aide in identifying potential subjects as well as media advertising.
