We are a small orthopedic office that does big research. We have two full time research coordinators that are certified. Our coordinators have a combined experience of 11 years in research. They also have a combined 36+ years as registered nurses. We have 3 Surgeons. Two are board certified Orthopedic Surgeons. One is a board certified Podiatric Surgeon. The Medical Director of our site is certified as a CPI.
We are located in Odessa, TX. We have an international airport located between Odessa and Midland. We service a 17 county area with access to approximately 300,000 in population. We also have a very large Hispanic population. We are known for oil, presidents, and football.
We started doing research in Jan of 2007. We have continued since then growing our site and growing in experience participating in Phase Iib to Phase IV trials. We have been asked on two occasions to be the first patient in and we accomplished both of those tasks. We also have been in the top 5 twice for enrollment and in the top 10 for most of our studies. We pride ourselves on enrollment and retention.
We have done multiple kinds of studies. See list below:
Phase IIb with Johnson and Johnson. IT was a biologic trial. Indication was moderate to severe OA pain.
Phase IIb with Johnson and Johnson. IT was a biologic trial. Indication was moderate to severe OA pain. This was a comparative study.
Phase IIB with Astelles. PPD was the CRO. It was a phase IIB inpatient study on a new Factor Xa anticoagulant.
We have done 4 III studies with Johnson and Johnson on the drug Nucynta. Pain management for moderate to severe OA.
We have done 1 III study with Omeros. This was a study with subjects that had torn their ACL.
We have done 1 phase IV study with indication of having OA and are at risk for heart disease. This is being in connection with Quintiles and Pfizer.
We are currently doing a device study with ArthroCare.
We have participated in both inpatient and outpatient studies.

2 dedicated x-ray rooms
SonoSite M-MSK ultrasound
All of our equipment has been biomedical certified
X-rays, scans and ultrasounds are performed by certified technicians
William G. Reilly, MD, CPI - Dr. Reilly is the Medical Director of our Research Department. He has been practicing medicine for over 25 years. He takes an active role as a PI. He has been the PI on 9 studies and Sub-I on 2 studies. His practice is predominately total joints both knee and hips. He does approximately 300 total knees a year and approximately 80 hips a year. He has help to pioneer the minimal incision approach for both knees and hips in our geographic area. He has also worked closely with Ortho Development in engineering knee and hip implants.
Steven C. Riley, MD - Dr. Riley is a partner in Basin Orthopedic Surgical Specialists. His area of expertise is sports medicine. He is the team doctor for all of the schools in this area and for semi-pro teams. He does a significant number of arthroscopic surgeries for both shoulders and knees. He also takes an active role as the PI. He has been doing research since 2007 and has been the PI on 2 studies and the Sub-I on 9 studies.
Hillary Brunner, DPM - Dr. Brunner is a native Odessan that has been practicing Podiatry for 5 years. She trained in New York. She returned to the area a year and a half ago and is very interested in participating in research. She has completed her GCP training. She is ready for her first study.
Deborah L. Mossbarger, RN, CCRP - Director of Clinical Research with 7+ years experience. She also has 26 years experience with being a RN with areas of experience in Operating Room(all aspects),and teaching
Peggy Ludi, RN, CCRC - Research Coordinator with 4+ years experience. She also has 10+ years as a Registered Nurse. Peggy's experience has been in Medical Surgical, Oncology, and Mental Health/Mental Illness. She has also been a traveling nurse
Miren Hinojos - Miren is a college student at the University of Texas at the Permian Basin. She is studying Biology and assists us with data entry and other office tasks.
We draw from a 17 county area with close to 300,000 population. The demographic is approximately 50% Hispanic.
