Palmetto Institute of Clinical Research, Inc., (PICR) was
founded to fulfill a need of managing and maintaining clinical
trials of another SMO. The clinical trials inherited have been
ongoing since 2003. Currently PICR continues these trials and have
now dedicated resources to conduct new clinical trials since
2007.
The mission of Palmetto Institute of Clinical Research, Inc.is
to facilitate the process of clinical research while promoting its
integrity, value and contribution to science and medicine. PICR
conducts clinical research in Upstate South Carolina offering
research-related resources for volunteers, sponsors, investigators
and research staff.
At Palmetto Insititute of Clinical Research, Inc. superior
patient care is given through clinical trials.
Palmetto Institute of Clinical Research, Inc. has

Palmetto Institute of Clinical Research, Inc. is located in
Pelzer, South Carolina, Anderson County. PICR is housed within a
private solo-practice setting, allowing direct access to an 8,000
patient database with various ethnicities and age groups from peds
to geriatrics.

Dr. Daniel A. Koontz is the Primary
Investigator. He has worked on clinical trails as the PI in he
areas of diabetes, hypertension, COPD and pain. He is board
certified in Family Practice and a member of the American Academy
of Family Practice. Dr. Koontz is a graduate of University of North
Carolina, Medical University of South Carolina and completed his
internship and residency at Anderson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Koontz
has been in a solo practice for 23 years in Pelzer, South
Carolina.

Palmetto Institute of Clinical Research, Inc. currently serves
the Upstate area to include: Anderson, Belton, Centerville,
Clemson, Homeland Park, Honea Path, Iva, Northlake, Pendleton,
Piedmont, Powdersville, Sandy Springs, Starr, West Pelzer, and
Williamston.
The population is evenly distributed across all age groups, with
a slight shift to the older age groups. The local economy features
a large manufacturing and business sector to include manufacturers
of automotive and metal products, industrial machinery, plastics,
publishing, and textiles.
According to the Census of 2000, there were 165,740 people. This
included 81.56% white, 16.59% black or African American, 0.22%
Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, and 0.40%
other races.
