MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation (MANRF) is comprised of Rowe Neurology Institute (clinical practice in neurology (a nonprofit research organization with basic science and clinical interest). Founded in 1982, MANRF is a full service neurology center located near Kansas City. MidAmericaNeuroscience Research Foundation has top neurological sub-specialists, nurses, technicians, research, and support staff dedicated to providing excellent neurological healthcare in a supportive environment. The research department conducts research according to the FDA regulations and within the Good Clinical Practice Guidelines. Our research professionals maintain certification in the protection of human subjects.

Facility Description

MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation is located in Lenexa, Kansas toward the southwest corner of the Kansas City Metropolitan area. The 15-county Kansas City Metropolitan area is the 27th largest in the United States with an estimated population of 1,967,405. The research foundation is a handicap accessible medical clinic well equipped and conveniently located near major highways, and approximately 30 minutes from an international airport. The Institute operates its own imaging center, neurophysiology lab, state of the art polysomnography sleep lab, physical therapy center, and clinical and basic science research area.

The Sleep center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The center has 8 sleep beds, digital equipment. The staff includesFive registeredpolysomnography technologists, two of whom are certified Respiratory Therapists.

The clinical research area consists of examination rooms; double-locking, limited-access medication storage (room temperature, refrigerated and -20 °); draw/processing laboratory with dedicated sample storage units (room temperature, refrigerated, -20 ° and -70 °); ECG equipment; radiology facilities (X-ray, MRI, CT); emergency protocols (crash cart, local ER facilities); and high-speed Internet access to support Electronic Data Capture activities and dedicated monitor space with Internet connectivity.

Investigator Experience

Our team of experienced investigators, coordinators, and administrative professionals bring knowledge, skill, quality, and a commitment to the research participant in every research trial in which we participate. Our investigators include:

• Vernon D. Rowe III, MD, President/Founder, Board Certified in Neurology, Electroencephalography, electrodiagnostic medicine, Neuro MRI, and Sleep Medicine - Over 32 years of neurology experience, over 30 years of research experience.
• George Moreng, MD, Director of the Imaging Center, Board certified in Neuro imaging - over 7 years of neurology experience, over 6 years of research experience.
• Dana Winegarner, DO, Director of the Headache and Memory Disorder Centers, Over 14 years of neurology experience, over 7 years of research experience.
• Kenneth R VanOwen, MD, Over 9 years of neurology experience, over 20 years of research experience, Board certified in neurophysiology, sleep medicine and neurology.
• Doug Schell, ARNP, Over 7 years of neurology experience, approximately 7 years of research experience.

Staff Expertise

John A. Hunter, PsyD, Administrator of the MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation. Prior to joining the MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation, he was the chief executive officer and hospital administrator for a hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He has published research on multiple sclerosis, sleep, psychological assessments and stroke.

The center employs three highly qualified clinical research coordinators with extensive experience in pharmaceutical research. LeAnn Cannon, LPN, COA, CCRC, Leigh Kreshell, MS, CCRC and Shannon Cone, LPN, CRC. The coordinator backgrounds include nursing and exercise physiology. The study coordinators maintain certifications in human subjects' protection, CPR, and IATA shipping standards.

MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation has a Physical Therapy Center with three highly skilled professionals, Shane Jackson , Amy Nichols and Kelli Wong, both having obtained their Doctorates in Physical Therapy.

The research foundation at MidAmerica Neuroscience Research Foundation uses a central IRB. The turn-around time in submitting all regulatory documentation averages 2 - 7 days. We accomplish the regulatory process in approximately two weeks with expedited completion possible. Contract budgets typically finalized within a week.
