We have a network of independent, private practice neurology, and pain centers located in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut . Through this network, CNS Research has established in-depth knowledge of the independent sites, patient access, capabilities, staffing, experience, etc. Through an established communication infrastructure based on a virtual private network, we have electronic databases that carry detailed information as to the sites’ current profile, including current electronic CVs for each physician and each coordinator. We have a track record with each site across all CNS, and pain disease areas. We have historical knowledge as to patient recruitment techniques that are appropriate and successful in the local community in which the site is located. All this information results in CNS Research’s ability to start studies quicker and complete studies as scheduled or ahead of our competition.

Dr. Norman M. Gordon
Medical Director of CNS Research, Inc.
Dr. Norman Gordon received his medical degree from the University
of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed an
Internal Medicine Residency at the Miriam Hospital in Providence,
Rhode Island. Dr. Gordon completed a Neurology Residency at the RIH
Department of Neurology, serving as Chief Resident from 1987-1988.
Dr. Gordon is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and
Neurology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a
member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Rhode Island
Medical Society, and the American Association for the Study of
Headache.

Dr. Elaine C. Jones, MD, FAAN
Dr. Elaine Jones attended Brown University in Providence, RI for her Neurology Residency and a Fellowship in Neurophysiology. In 2000 she became Chief of Neurology at Roger Williams Medical Center until 2005 when she left to open her own private practice in Bristol, RI. From 2008 to 2010 she was president of the medical staff at Roger Williams Medical Center and was directly involved as the physician representative for the establishment of a new company CharterCare that merged two local hospital organizations into one corporation. She remains on the Board of Trustees of CharterCare. She became involved in advocacy and health care legislation when she took over as president of the RI Neurological Society. In 2009 she became co-chair of the AAN’s new Government Relations Committee and joined the BrainPAC Executive Board. Recently Dr. Jones became Secretary for the RI Medical Society. Her interest in advocacy remains a strong part of her practice of medicine. She continues to advocate for her patients with pharmacies, health insurance agencies and on the local and national level.

Dr. Peter J. Bellafiore offers diagnosis and treatment of general
neurological conditions and disorders. Dr. Bellafiore is a
physician who is highly trained to treat disorders of the nervous

and muscles. Some of the more common conditions that a neurologist
diagnoses and treats are as follows: Strokes Epilepsy (seizures)

Research Director
Patricia J. Epple earned her Certification as a Clinical Research
Coordinator as the site manager of the Department of Neurology at
the Miriam Hospital. With her twenty years experience in the
healthcare industry, she has been managing clinical research trials
for over 15 years. Her responsibilities include acquisition of new
clinical trials, budget negotiations, promotion and supervision of
ongoing projects. Patricia is currently the Director of the Stroke
Team at Miriam Hospital, responsible for enrolling patients under
emergency conditions.

Research Coordinator
Annette received her Bachelor of Science of Nursing from Northeastern University, Boston, MA in 2001 Her experience includes Respiratory disease management acute and chronic, Cardiac Care, Pre and Post-Operative care inpatient and outpatient. Annette has been working with CNS Research Inc. since 2006 on several neurology studies. Her duties include Medical record reviews, data abstraction, to improve clinical outcomes and patient education.

Patricia T. Schumacher, RN, CRC
Research Coordinator
Ms. Schumacher has been a registered nurse for over 30 years with a depth of health care experience. Patricia has been a critical care clinician and since 1993 has provided home health case management, elder care, palliative and hospice care. Professional certifications obtained in critical care, legal nurse consulting, and clinical research. Patricia joined CNS Research as consultant in 2005 when she conducted an Alzheimer study at two sites for over two years. Formally recognized for her role in conducting a comprehensive national elder care study (ACOVE) in association with RAND for a national health insurance provider. Patricia specializes in performance improvement contract services including medical record abstraction for quality measures, standards identification, documentation, and compliance audits.

Axel J. Epple, MBA
Project Manager
Mr. Epple received his MBA from the FHW in Pforzheim, Germany in 1985. He started his career in marketing and sales in Switzerland in the export of industrial products to overseas markets. In 1990 he founded an Export Management Consulting firm in Providence, RI. Mr. Epple has been directing ARISTO Marketing Corporation as Vice President successfully for seven years. In 1997 the Epples founded CNS Research, Inc. with Dr. Norman M. Gordon as the Medical Director. Today Mr. Epple carries out the duties of business manager overseeing studies and consulting projects at several investigative sites.
