Center Overview

The Neurological Research Center (NRC) is a service of Hattiesburg Clinic. Our goal is to partner with both academia and industry to provide the residents of South Mississippi with access to leading-edge clinical trials.

Clinical Research Experience

The NRC has conducted phase II, III, and IV clinical trials with focus on neurological disease. The NRC is able to utilize a Central Institutional Review Board. The Center's special interests include Alzheimer disease, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, stroke, migraine, as well as other disorders that affect the nervous system. The center has been involved in clinical research since 2005.

Facility Description

NRC physicians provide evaluation and treatment in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The center has On-site laboratory (certified by the State Board) -20 C freezer, dry ice, centrifuge; On-site full service pharmacy; On-site imaging department with 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging and 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging, PET Imaging, 64 slice CT scanner, Densitometry, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound; Neurodiagnostics including Electroencephalography (EEG), 24-hour EEG/Video Monitoring, Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction, Electronystagmography (ENG), and Tilt table; Neuropsychological testing and dedicated, secure research space.

Located within Hattiesburg Clinic, a physician-owned group practice with more than 200 physicians, NRC is staffed by board certified Neurologists who oversee all aspects of clinical trials. Support Personnel include a study coordinator and clinical study manager who provide services necessary for the efficient achievement of research objectives.

We are located across the street from Forrest General Hospital, a 512 bed, level II regional trauma center.

Investigator Experience

Ronald L. Schwartz, MD
Director and Principle Investigator
Dr. Schwartz graduated from Columbia College, in New York City with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He attended medical school at Albany Medical College, in Albany, New York. He completed his Neurology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York where he also served as chief resident in Neurology. Dr. Schwartz completed a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at the University of Florida, in Gainesville. Dr. Schwartz has been actively involved in clinical research, including pharmaceutical trials, since 1996.
