Center Overview

The Sentara Medical Group Clinical Research Department is the coordinating office for over 290 multi-specialty physicians located in 18 offices in the Cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, and Williamsburg, Virginia area. Sentara Medical Group has a current patient database of over 350,000 patients. We are part of Sentara Healthcare, which has been named one of the countries top ten integrated healthcare systems in America for the past 7 years. Facility Description

We participate in Phase II, III, IV, OTC, device and post marketing outpatient clinical trials. We also have a hospital-based dedicated staff, available 24/7 for our inpatient trials. Sentara Healthcare owns 6 hospitals in the Hampton Roads area, 2 are Level One trauma centers. We own 3 diagnostic centers equiped with CT and MRI Scanners, DEXA Machines, Mammography, Treadmills, Spirometry, EKG machines, X-ray, Ultrasound machines, freezers, and a certified laboratory that services our 18 offices. There are also on-site Registered Dieticians as well as Certified Diabetic Educators. There are separate rooms for monitoring with DSL computer lines, telephone's, copy machine's are accessible.

We are a multi-specialty group. Specialists in the field of Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Pulmonary/Critical Care, Sleep Disorders, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine and Family Medicine Physicians are Board Certified.

There are over 290 potential Investigators in Sentara Medical Group. SMG Clinical Research has been supporting our Investigators for over 8 years. When a study is presented to the research office, we query the data base to see which Investigator has the greatest number of potential patients that could qualify for the study.

Our patient population reflects the cultural diversity that makes the Hampton Roads community unique. Non-Hispanic White, African-American, Hispanic and Asian patient populations are among the most frequently encountered at our practices.

There are over 350,000 patient seen annually at our 18 outpatient centers.

Site is not under jurisdiction of local IRB and is able to utilize central IRB services.

All staff are certified in the shipment of hazardous materials.

All staff are CPR certified.
