California Allergy and Asthma Medical Group is a private practice specializing in asthma, allergy and clinical immunology. Our physicians and staff have more than 30 years experience in treating allergy and asthma. We offer the latest in diagnostic testing and therapy for allergic and respiratory problems. Our research division has a long and successful history as a study site for a diverse variety of research projects.

Clinical Research Experience

Our research division has conducted studies in asthma, allergy, COPD, sinusitis, cough, allergic rhinitits, chronic urticaria, psoriasis and nasal polyps. The current research staff has been working with Dr. Spector for over a dozen years, providing reliable, detailed data and personable patient contact. We specialize in research phases II through IV.

Members of our research staff have conducted clinical trials for Glaxo Wellcome, Merck, Sepracor, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Carter-Wallace, Astra Zeneca, SmithKline Beecham, Boehringer Ingelheim, Pfizer, Schering, Dura, Abbot, Bayer, Alpha-Therapeutics, Immulogic, Eli-Lilly, Roche, Hoechst Marion-Roussel, Immunex, Protein Design Lab, IDEC Pharmaceuticals, and many others.

Our research division has conducted Phase II-IV clinical trials on the following therapeutic specialties:

• Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria - 1 trial completed
• Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis - 1 trial completed
• Perennial Allergic Rhinitis - 1 trial completed, 1 trial ongoing

Dermatology:

• Psoriasis - 2 trials ongoing - Enrollment closed
• Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria - 1 trial completed

Gastroenterology:

• Dyspepsia - 1 trial ongoing - Enrolling

Infectious Disease:

• Candidiasis - 1 trial completed
• Influenza - 1 trial completed, 1 trial ongoing

Otolaryngology

• Oral Candidiasis - 1 trial completed
• Seasonal, Perennial Allergic Rhinitis - 2 trials completed, 1 trial ongoing

Facility Description

California Allergy and Asthma Medical Group conducts research projects from two study locations. This is very convenient for our patients and a real benefit to our subject recruitment efforts. Patients have the option to visit our Los Angeles office, which is three blocks west of the 405 freeway and a central location for residents in the greater Los Angeles area, or our Palmdale office, which is much closer to our patients in the northern Los Angeles County area. Both locations are comfortable private practice offices with state-of-the-art equipment and convenient hours. Our Los Angeles office is open Saturdays.

Investigator Experience

Sheldon Spector, MD, is an internationally-known authority in the field of allergy and immunology. He has written books and published more than 300 papers in scientific journals. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the UCLA Medical Center. He is the immediate past President of the California Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He has been Chairman of the Task Force for Practice Parameters for the Joint Council of Allergy and Immunology. He has been Principal Investigator for more than 100 clinical trial protocols.

Ricardo Tan, MD trained in Allergy and Immunology at the UCLA Medical Center. He has published extensively in the fields of allergy, asthma and immunology. He has been Principal Investigator and Subinvestigator for numerous clinical trials.

Both Dr. Specor and Dr. Tan are Board-Certified in Allergy and Immunology.

Patient Demographics

Our offices draw patients from Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. Many study subjects are drawn from Dr. Spector's and Dr. Tan's patient populations and our previous studies' recruiting efforts, consisting of well over a thousand allergy and asthma sufferers.
