The mission of Lincoln Research is to provide high-quality clinical care to subjects who participate in a clinical study and to generate reliable scientific data to facilitate development of new drugs and indications. We work to develop and enhance pharmacological treatment for the benefit of the general community.

Lincoln Research is conveniently located off Route 116 in Lincoln, Rhode Island. It is only a 10-minute drive from downtown Providence and only a 20-minute drive from T.F. Green (Providence) Airport. It is staffed with clinicians and research professionals experienced in conducting clinical research.
Lincoln Research is equipped with a secure medication room with locked drug cabinets, a locked freezer (-20°), ECG machines, on-site examination rooms, and an on-site laboratory.
In addition, the office space is accommodating to both subjects and research professionals with a comfortable waiting area, private offices, and wireless dedicated monitoring space.
James J. Whalen, M.D., CPI is board-certified in Adult Psychiatry and has extensive experience in the sub-specialty of Forensic Psychiatry. Dr. Whalen completed his medical and psychiatric training at the Brown University School of Medicine and his Fellowship training at Harvard University. He continues to provide psychiatric care to patients in Rhode Island since 1993 and is also licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts and Connecticut. He has been actively involved in clinical research since 1996. In addition to private practice and clinical research work, Dr. Whalen directed coursework in Forensic Psychiatry and provided supervision to psychiatry residents at the Brown University School of Medicine. He has provided Forensic Psychiatry Consultation to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Whalen is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, member of the Rhode Island Psychiatric Society, an International Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and a member of the Clinical Society of Research in Psychopharmacology (SCRIP).
The staff at Lincoln Research has extensive training and experience in conducting all areas of clinical trial research. This involves all areas from screening and randomizing appropriate subjects to the timely submission of IRB materials. The staff at Lincoln Research continually conducts themselves in a manner consistent with their goal of maintaining a high standard of performance and professionalism.
In addition, the research staff is qualified to perform numerous ratings and assessments including, but not limited to, the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (Axis I and II), Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview, Hamilton Depression Scale, Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale, Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety, and Clinician's Interview Based Impression of Severity.

Just 10 minutes north west of Providence, our Site is conveniently accessed by interstates 95 and 295.
Dr. Whalen's professional relationships with several primary care physicians serves to provide Lincoln Research with numerous patient referrals to our open research studies.
Lincoln Research utilizes central IRB, which allows us a quick study start-up phase and a smooth operation of our ongoing studies (i.e. in terms of protocol amendments, etc.).
