Principal Investigator: Susanna Goldstein,
M.D., the founder and medical director of Medical &
Behavioral Health Research, P.C., is board-certified in
Psychiatry/Neurology and Geriatric Psychiatry in the USA and Israel
and is a Certified Clinical Research Investigator by ACRP. As a
research fellow at Columbia P&S Psychiatric Institute, she
participated in the development and field testing of various
psychometric instruments. She is experienced in training
psychiatric residents and research staff in the use of structured
interviews, and in implementing inter-rater reliability programs in
multi-center NIMH-funded research studies. Dr. Goldstein also
completed a research fellowship in Biological Psychiatry at the
Albert Einstein College of Medicine focusing on the biological
factors of the female reproductive life cycle that affect mental
health.
She has been conducting clinical trials since 1984, first as a principal investigator in academic settings and then in 1991, she founded MBHR, a private clinical research site. MBHR completed over 89 research studies.
Dr. Goldstein is personally involved with all trials from the
first contact with the sponsor until the study ends. Study
coordinators are highly trained, meticulous, and personable. She

Patient recruitment is a key component in conducting a clinical
trial. Medical and Behavioral Health Research, P.C., takes a
"patient friendly" approach to patient accrual,
communication to target patients an understanding of their fears,
motives, needs and concerns.
Our facility is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan,
easily accessible to more than 10 million people in the New York
metropolitan area. Our potential patient base is therefore
enormous, and includes diverse communities of virtually every
conceivable ethnic and racial group.
Patient recruitment relies on these primary sources:
- Direct advertising (newspapers, radio, direct mail, Internet,
etc.)
- Investigators' private practices
- Physician referral
- Community organizations
In recruiting patients and increasing patient participation, we
rely on these effective strategies and tools:
- Carefully developed telephone screening techniques
- Sensitivity toward patient's motivation
- Flexible appointment hours
- Reimbursement for patient travel expenses when needed
- Caring and dedicated personnel
MBHR is able to utilize central IRB which gives us the ability
to turn around new studies quickly.
All patients are treated with care and consideration. We provide
a free follow up program to all patients who complete participation
in a study.
