Infinity, Mundipharma extend global alliance

Infinity Pharmaceuticals has reported that Mundipharma International has committed to providing over $50 million in funding in 2013 for the continued development of IPI-145, Infinity's potent, oral inhibitor of phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K) delta and gamma, as well as development candidates arising out of Infinity's innovative discovery programs. An extension of the companies' global strategic alliance, this funding reflects the broad commercial potential of IPI-145 in both hematologic cancers and inflammatory conditions as well as the continued productivity of Infinity's discovery and development programs.

AstraZeneca commits additional $100m to MedImmune

AstraZeneca has committed an additional $100 million to its venture capital arm, MedImmune Ventures, increasing the total capital under management to $400 million. MedImmune Ventures is an evergreen venture capital fund that focuses on equity investments in private companies in the areas of biopharmaceuticals, medical and healthcare technology.

Roche, PTC sign potential $490m licensing deal

Roche, PTC Therapeutics, and the SMA Foundation, have signed a licensing agreement for PTC's Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) program. SMA is a genetic neuromuscular disorder that causes muscle weakness.

RaySearch enters agreement with Chinese distributor

RaySearch Laboratories has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with the Chinese distributor Kang Li Da Trading, based in Beijing. The agreement means that Kang Li Da will be fully responsible for marketing, sales and service for RaySearch’s proprietary treatment planning system RayStation on the entire Chinese market.

University of Cambridge, Elan launch research center

The University of Cambridge and Elan have launched The Cambridge-Elan Centre for Research Innovation and Drug Discovery (Cambridge-Elan Centre), which will be located at the University of Cambridge, England. The Cambridge-Elan Centre will provide an interdisciplinary environment uniquely positioned for delivering translational research focused on innovative therapies for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. This ten-year agreement paves the way for a long-term collaboration between Elan and the University of Cambridge.

Roche, BGI develop advanced MHC technology

Roche NimbleGen and BGI have developed a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region capture technology based on NimbleGen SeqCap EZ Choice Library, a process for the enrichment of the MHC region. This newly developed approach allows easy capture and enrichment of these highly repetitive regions and enables the generation of deep sequencing coverage of the human MHC region. This new sample preparation approach overcomes the limitations of traditional methods of PCR and genomic enrichment used for disease and drug research.
