Prometrika and Boston Biotech Clinical Research Help Sponsors Create DMCs

Contract research organization (CRO) Prometrika and medical research consulting firm Boston Biotech Clinical Research (BBCR) are teaming up to provide data monitoring committee (DMC) services to clinical trial sponsors.  Together, the companies will help sponsors establish and operate independent DMCs (also called data safety monitoring boards and data and safety monitoring committees).

Covance to Expand Food Safety Services with New Lab, Kellogg Contract

Covance plans to invest $14 million in a nutritional chemistry and food safety laboratory in Michigan as part of an effort to expand the contract research organization’s (CRO’s) food safety testing capabilities. The CRO also entered into a seven-year, $42-million contract with Kellogg Company, which will be an anchor client to Covance’s new facility.

PPD Paying Cash for Acquisitions, Shelling Out $77M for BioDuro

Wilmington, N.C.-based PPD, a global contract research organization (CRO), is spending its cash hoard in a buying spree to “dominate” the Asia-Pacific region. The CRO doled out $77 million for its latest acquisition of BioDuro, a drug discovery outsourcing company focused on integrated drug discovery programs and services. The deal was completed last week just a couple weeks after it paid cash for another CRO in China.
