VolitionRx begins first ovarian cancer detection study

VolitionRx, a Belgium-based life sciences company focused on developing blood-based diagnostic tests for a broad range of cancer types and other conditions, has signed an agreement to commence a pilot ovarian cancer study in collaboration with Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Blood and tissue samples collected from 40 patients will be assessed to establish the feasibility of VolitionRx’s proprietary NuQ assays in detecting ovarian cancer. If this test proves to be accurate, it could offer hope as an early-stage screening tool.

Diagnostics Development Hub to boost biomedical research in Singapore

Singapore’s biomedical research sector received a major boost with the launch of a new Diagnostics Development (DxD) Hub. The DxD Hub aims to develop medical diagnostics as one part of the medical technologies industry, improve healthcare through development of diagnostic solutions and accelerate production of new diagnostics devices. Diagnostics is one of four innovation clusters shortlisted to be funded under the $200 million Innovation Cluster Program (ICP) launched Oct. 2013.

National Cancer Center Singapore, Clearbridge BioMedics collaborate

A collaboration between National Cancer Center Singapore (NCCS) and Clearbridge BioMedics, in partnership with the pathology department at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), has resulted in the establishment of the region’s first Circulating Tumor Cell Center of Research Excellence (CTC CoRE). This new center facilitates the use of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in clinical diagnostics, in order for new technologies to be applied by healthcare institutions.
