Genomic Data Commons launches for data and clinical information sharing

The Genomic Data Commons (GDC), a unified data system that promotes sharing of genomic and clinical data between researchers, has launched. An initiative of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the GDC will be a core component of the National Cancer Moonshot and the President’s Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI), and benefits from $70 million allocated to NCI to lead efforts in cancer genomics as part of PMI for Oncology.

Collaborative Cancer Cloud expands to drive medicines to patients faster

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) of Boston and the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) in Toronto have joined the Collaborative Cancer Cloud, a partnership formed in August 2015 by the Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) of Portland, Oregon, and Intel. By allowing research institutions to securely share genomic, imaging and clinical data on a precision medical analytics platform, the Collaborative Cancer Cloud is positioning itself to make rapid strides in cancer research and lifesaving therapies.

DVS Sciences raises $14 million, largest round in Canada life sciences, to expand CyTOF sales

DVS Sciences, which invented and manufactures an instrument enabling biomarker analysis for scientific research, clinical trials and personalized medicine, has raised $14.6 million in series A financing. This is the largest venture-backed series A equity raised in Canada’s life sciences and medical technology fields in recent years, and is almost twice the average series A funding in the U.S., the company said.
