NIH funds additional medical centers for precision medicine research program

The NIH has announced awards to add four regional medical center groups to the national network of healthcare provider organizations (HPOs) that will implement the Precision Medicine Initiative (PMI) Cohort Program. Combined, the new HPOs will receive initial funds of $5.5 million to begin recruitment and build infrastructure. As efforts advance, the centers may receive first-year funds up to a total of $16 million. The four HPOs join awardees announced earlier this year, to enroll interested individuals, gather participants’ health information and biospecimens and provide input on developing plans for the program.

BMC selects PFS Clinical for trial coverage analysis

PFS Clinical, a Middleton, Wis.-based provider of turnkey administration solutions that address the key pain points of establishing and running a clinical trial office, has been engaged by the Boston Medical Center (BMC) Clinical Trial Office to provide Medicare Coverage Analysis (CA) of its research trials. PFS Clinical also is helping streamline the transfer of trial information into BMC’s recently deployed clinical trial management system (CTMS) and will provide employee training through its CA workshops.

MLSC, COBTH, UMass Med launch web portal to promote collaboration

The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) partnered with the Conference of Boston Teaching Hospitals (COBTH) and the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center to the launch the Massachusetts Clinical Innovation Gateway. The new web portal will allow life sciences companies from around the world to seek opportunities to partner with Massachusetts academic medical centers (AMCs) on research and clinical initiatives.
