Dementia Consortium funds dementia treatments team

The Dementia Consortium, a public-private partnership initiative bridging the gap between academic research and the pharmaceutical industry, is supporting a project led by Dr. David Brough at the University of Manchester to develop novel therapeutics for Alzheimer’s disease targeting the immune system. This is the fifth project supported by the Dementia Consortium, and has been awarded £191,757 by the initiative.

Milner Therapeutics Institute, Pfizer partner

The Milner Therapeutics Institute has announced Pfizer as a partner to the Milner Therapeutics Consortium. Pfizer has agreed to join the Consortium, which enables the efficient transfer of materials between industry and academia and allocation of funds for partnering opportunities in Cambridge. Dr. Ron Newbold, vice president, External R&D Innovation at Pfizer, will join the Milner Innovation Board alongside representatives from Astex, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Shionogi, MedImmune, University of Cambridge, Babraham Institute and Sanger Institute.

FEI partners to form Cryo-EM research consortium

FEI has partnered to form the “Cambridge Pharmaceutical Cryo-EM Consortium.” Partners include five pharmaceutical companies—Astex Pharmaceuticals, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Heptares Therapeutics and UCB; the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology (MRC-LMB); and the University of Cambridge’s Nanoscience Center. As part of the three-year agreement, FEI will provide sample preparation and data collection services on a Titan Krios cryo-transmission electron microscope (cryo-EM) to the consortium companies for early-stage drug discovery research.
