Progenitor Labs, the biotechnology company spun out of Plasticell in 2011, is pleased to announce it has been voted Best Emerging Biotech at the Oxford Biotechnology Network’s Annual Awards Dinner held at Pembroke College, Oxford. Progenitor was selected from the biotechnology companies clustered within the “Golden Triangle” comprising London, Oxford and Cambridge.

ProTip receives ESB translational research prize

ProTip, a company developing medical devices that bring innovative solutions to people suffering from dysfunctions of the larynx, was awarded the ESB Translational Research prize of the European Society for Biomaterials at the ESB annual congress in Dublin, Ireland. This prize, sponsored by the Swiss Society for Biomaterials, is designed to “support scientific efforts in translational research, i.e. scientific activities helping to transform a research idea into a product.”
 
This prize has been awarded for a research program launched by ProTip in 2010, aimed at developing a trachea implant made from a biodegradable microporous polymer and macroporous titanium.
 
“This reward proves that, with high enough focus on relevant and the right research activities, a young firm like ProTip can play an important role in a market as demanding and competitive as that of biomaterials,” said the chairman of ProTip, Maurice Bérenger.

UK’s DNR to build clinical trials database for diabetes

A new campaign launched by the UK’s Diabetes Research Network (DRN) aims to recruit up to 25,000 diabetes patients over an 18-month period to a ‘consent for approach’ database that should help to accelerate set-up times for clinical trials in the field, according to PharmaTimes.
