Report: 43% of European consumers seek resources from pharma companies, not through social media

Despite heavy restrictions on DTC advertising in Europe, nearly two in five online Europeans would like to be able to learn more about prescription drugs directly from a pharmaceutical company, according to the new Cybercitizen Health Europe study from pharmaceutical and healthcare market research company Manhattan Research.

AstraZeneca, MRC ink collaboration giving UK academia access to 22 compounds

A wide range of compounds will be made available free of charge to UK medical researchers next year, following an agreement between the Medical Research Council (MRC) and AstraZeneca. Academia will be granted access to 22 compounds, developed by AstraZeneca. Through MRC funding, UK academia will conduct studies to better understand what drives a range of diseases with a view to exploring new treatment opportunities.

The University of Cambridge and Elan have launched The Cambridge-Elan Centre for Research Innovation and Drug Discovery (Cambridge-Elan Centre), which will be located at the University of Cambridge, England. The Cambridge-Elan Centre will provide an interdisciplinary environment uniquely positioned for delivering translational research focused on innovative therapies for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. This ten-year agreement paves the way for a long-term collaboration between Elan and the University of Cambridge.

Report: Clinical trials approved in Russia on course in third quarter

The number of new studies approved in Russia during the third quarter of 2011 reached last year’s level, with the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation (MoH) approving 132 new clinical trials of all types, including local and bioequivalence studies, according to Synergy Research Group (SynRG), a Russia-based CRO. That’s only two trials below the number approved in the year-ago quarter.
