Techne buys Tocris Holdings

U.K. based Techne Corporation has acquired 100% ownership of another U.K.-based company, Tocris Holdings, a leading supplier of reagents for non-clinical life science research.  Tocris' products are used in both in-vitro and in-vivo experiments, to understand biological processes and diseases. The business is focused on making biologically active neuro- and bio-chemicals which are used by researchers to elucidate biological processes and pathways. The products are used in life-science research activities and as part of the initial drug discovery process.

Evotec acquires Kinaxo Biotechnologies

Germany-based Evotec has acquired of Kinaxo Biotechnologies, a drug discovery business with particular expertise in oncology. Completion of the deal gives Evotec access to technologies in drug discovery, efficacy, response predication, and safety assessment.

Warner to cut 500 jobs

After losing patent protection on their osteoporosis drug Actonel, Ireland-based Warner Chilcott is restructuring its E.U. operations and plans to cut 500 jobs in the process, according to Fierce Pharma. Actonel brought in about 70% of Warner's sales in Western Europe in 2010, and the drug is up against generic competition.
