Watson acquires Uteron Pharma

Watson Pharmaceuticals, a global, integrated specialty generics pharmaceutical company, has completed the acquisition of Belgium-based Uteron Pharma, a development-based company dedicated to female healthcare, for $150 million in cash up front, and up to $155 million in potential future milestone payments.

Watson to acquire Actavis Group for $5.6 billion

Watson Pharmaceuticals has decided to acquire privately held generics pharmaceutical company Actavis Group for an upfront payment of $5.6 billion. As a result, Watson will become the third largest global generics company with 2012 anticipated pro forma revenue of approximately $8 billion.

Watson to open New Jersey R&D center

Watson Pharmaceuticals is planning a global R&D technology center in North Brunswick, N.J. The company has signed a lease for a 32,000-square-foot facility at the Economic Development Authority's Technology Center of New Jersey, a 50-acre complex consisting of lab, production and office space. Watson intends to initially invest approximately $4.5 million in outfitting the new facility.

FDA committee fails to recommend gel to reduce preterm birth

The FDA’s advisory committee for Reproductive Health Drugs did not recommend approval of progesterone vaginal gel 8% for the reduction of risk of preterm birth in women with short uterine cervical length at the mid-trimester of pregnancy, confirmed Columbia Laboratories and Watson Pharmaceuticals.
