Roche launches GS FLX+ System software update

Roche has launched a software update that extends the range of amplicon lengths available for targeted next-generation sequencing studies on the 454 GS FLX+ System. The latest software enables sequencing of amplicons up to 800bp while maintaining >99% accuracy over the length of the read.

A U-M team of researchers investigating the fundamental cause of Dravet syndrome, a severe childhood epilepsy, have reprogrammed fibroblasts, a type of skin cell, from Dravet patients and generated patient-specific neurons- which could help determine new therapies or better medications for the syndrome.

U-M Medical School, MedImmune ink 3 year research agreement

Leaders from the University of Michigan Medical School and MedImmune, the global biologics arm of AstraZeneca, have signed a new agreement to work together on a broad range of projects. The three-year strategic collaboration will bring scientists from one of the nation’s top medical research institutions together with scientists from one of the world’s leading developers of biologic therapies. UMMS and MedImmune scientists will cooperate on studies that aim to translate scientific discoveries from the laboratory into new candidates for treating cancer, heart disease, digestive disease, lung disease and diseases caused by inflammation.

Grants awarded to research benefits of adaptive clinical trial design, identify barriers

Researchers at the University of Michigan have received a $1.5 million grant to demonstrate how adaptive clinical trial design can improve the speed, efficiency and safety of clinical research. As part of the three-year project, the researchers also will identify barriers to widespread adoption of these innovative trial designs in academic research.
