NIH awards $33m grant to Banner Alzheimer's Institute, study planned

Banner Alzheimer's Institute (BAI) has announced a major prevention trial to evaluate a treatment in cognitively healthy older adults at the highest known genetic risk for developing Alzheimer's disease at older ages. An NIH grant, expected to total $33.2 million, will support this research.

Navidea awarded NIH SBIR grant

Navidea Biopharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company focused on precision diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals, has been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institute On Aging (NIA) of the NIH in connection with the company's phase III clinical program for its NAV4694 beta-amyloid imaging agent as an aid in the differential diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

Investigational drugs chosen for major Alzheimer's prevention trial

Scientists have selected the first investigational drugs for a worldwide Alzheimer's disease prevention trial. The pioneering study, expected to start by early 2013, initially will test three promising drugs—gantenerumab, solanezumab and an unnamed BACE inhibitor—each designed to target Alzheimer's in different ways.

Risk gene for Alzheimer's disease associated with lower brain amyloid

Researchers investigating a known gene risk factor for Alzheimer's disease discovered it is associated with lower levels of beta amyloid—a brain protein involved in Alzheimer's—in cognitively healthy older people.

Aphios awarded SBIR grant for Alzheimer’s research

Aphios has received a phase II SBIR grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for $2.4 million over two years. The National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the NIH, awarded the grant to Aphios to develop an “Alzheimer’s Disease Therapeutic.
